Beach Cleaning – October 2018

In a joint initiative, SEA LIFE Porto, Oporto University and the Oporto Water Company, are welcoming all volunteers to help clean the Oporto Castelo do Queijo beach on the 6th October 2018. The event should start at 10h15 and more than 300 people are expected to participate. The session should last for 90 minutes and afterwards there is a snack and a free visit to the Oporto Sea Life.

The beach cleaning session wants to draw people’s attention to the need to preserve and protect our oceans from all types of pollution. If you are around and want to give a helping hand, you are more than welcome … 🙂 🙂

Aquaporto 2018

The Aquaporto 2018 event will take place in Parque da Cidade – Oporto between the 28th and the 30th September 2018. This event is promoted by the Oporto City Council, Oporto Water and Porto Lazer in order to celebrate the water day and help people know more about climate change. This year’s event includes 130 scientific / educational experiences performed by specific partners located near the Water Pavillion – northern entrance to Parque da Cidade.

Entrance is free and everyone is welcome to participate. The schedule for the 3 days is the following:

  • 28th September: 10h00 to 19h00
  • 29th September: 11h00 to 19h00
  • 30th September: 11h00 to 19h00

Miguel Bombarda Art exhibitions – September 2018

This weekend there will be new art exhibitions in Miguel Bombarda. At least, 15 art galleries will present their new exhibitions next Saturday. Again, there will also be guided tours for those that want to know more about Miguel Bombarda art exhibitions. For those interested, the guided tours initiative is called Bombarda Stop&Go and there are two schedules available 16h00 and 17h30. As there are only 30 slots available for each tour, there is the need to pre-register by email: stopandgo@portolazer.pt (until 13h00 on the 21st September).

The Smart Capital 2018 will take place again in Oporto. This year’s edition will happen between the 20th and 21st September 2018 in the Dragon Stadium. It is an event promoted by the International Venture Club (IVC) in partnership with the Oporto City Council. Inflatable cinema for children – Outeiro

The inflatable cinema initiative will take place today (8th September 2018) in Bairro do Outeiro, Paranhos, between 11h00 and 20h00. Today’s event will feature different movie sessions for different age groups:

  • Children aged 3 to 5: 11h00, 14h00 and 17h00
  • Children aged 6 to 9: 12h00, 15h00 and 18h00
  • Children aged 10 to 12: 13h00, 16h00 and 19h00

Everyone can watch these movies for free and this initiative was promoted by the Oporto City Council in partnership with Associação Cultural Figueira Nacional.

Classical Music Concerts – September 2018

To celebrate the end of the Summer 2018, there will be a series of classical concerts in Avenida dos Aliados on the 7th and 8th September. These concerts are going to be performed by well-known and reputed national orchestras and they are sponsored by the Oporto City Council and the House of Music Foundation.

Concerts start at 22h00 on Saturday and Sunday and access is free, so everyone is welcome to listen to the last classical sounds of Summer.

The 2018 edition of the Oporto Book Fair will take place in the gardens of Palácio de Cristal between the 7th and the 23rd September. This is a typical event in which several local bookshops and publishers try to present and sell some of their most interesting books and/or collections. There are not only books in Portuguese, but also in other languages, written by several national and international authors. For experts, there are also some unique and rare masterpieces.

On the second Saturday of September 2018 (the 8th), the fifth session of downtown Oporto orienteering will take place. This is a sports event that combines orienteering with touristic attractions, as some of the most relevant monuments of Oporto are considering important landmarks in the competition. There will be an app available to guide participants. The event starts at 10h00 and everyone is welcome to participate. The location where the competition will start and finish is Praça Dom João I.

The final of the national volleyball championship will take place in Oporto (Beach Stadium – edifício transparente) between the 17th and 19th August 2018. The final of the Activobank championship 2018 for male and female seniors will come to Oporto!! The full layout of the final is the following:

  • 17th August – between 12h00 and 19h00
  • 18th August – between 9h00 and 19h00
  • 19th August – between 9h00 and 19h00

Access to the tournament is free. Just make sure you arrive early to find a good spot in the Beach Stadium.
