Porto Beer Fest – 2018

Considered as a significant event on the way to Saint John’s celecbrations, the Porto Beer Fest will take place in Oporto between the 13th and 16th June 2018. The third edition of this event will have more than 300 varieties of beer and will also include food, music and a giant lcd screen to watch the world cup matches. Definitely, one of the best places in Oporto to watch the matches of your national team!!!

The event will take place in Palácio de Cristal and is free. More than 40 000 visitors are expected to participate in this initiative.

If beer is your thing, then this is an event you cannot miss. Do not forget to go to Palácio de Cristal for beer action!!

Saint John holiday at Oporto

This year, the Saint John party will take place on saturday’s night. Considered as one of the biggest celebrations in Portugal, and the biggest in Oporto, this is a party that attracts many tourists. In 2018, the main list of events scheduled by the City Hall for the holiday is the following:

  • 22nd June at 21h30 – Avenida dos Aliados – Saint John Parade with typical groups singing and dancing
  • 23rd June at 22h00 – Avenida dos Aliados – tribute to António Mafra
  • 23rd June at 24h00 – fireworks in River Douro
  • 24th June at 00h30 – José Cid concert – Avenida dos Aliados
  • 24th June at 17h00 – Saint John concert – Avenida dos Aliados

Additionally, there should also be many private and neighbourhood parties that you can enjoy. Most of these are free, so you should be up for the time of your life...

New art exhibitions in Miguel Bombarda …

June is a month with new art exhibitions in Miguel Bombarda. On the 9th June there will be 16 new exhibitions available. To ensure that people get the most out of these new exhibits, there will be very specific initiatives taking place:

  • Bombarda Stop & Go – Guided tours to Galleries – Two tours of approximately 60 minutes each starting at 16h00 and 17h30. Groups of 30 people. If you want to take the tour, send an email to stopandgo@portolazer.pt
  • Toys creation workshop – between 16h00 and 19h00. Free demonstration in Miguel Bombarda delivered by Simão Bolivar.
  • Modern dance – between 17h00 and 18h00 in Miguel Bombarda. Production: Balleteatro

International Circus Festival – Oporto

The Oporto International Circus Festival will take place between the 13th and 16th September in Oporto. This festival will have the participation of the 12 circus companies from different countries and is planning to deliver around 40 events. Most of the events will happen indoors, in Coliseu Ageas, but some will also take place in nearby streets or plazas, such as, Largo de Santo Ildefonso, Praça da Batalha, Praça dos Poveiros and Jardim São Lázaro. All the events will be free, meaning that you just need to select the ones you are interested on.

Serralves em Festa – 2018

The 15th edition of Serralves em Festa will take place between the 1st and 3rd June 2018 in Oporto. As it is usual, there will be non-stop activities for all age groups, not only in the garden, farm and museum of Serralves, but also in other areas of Oporto. Considered as one of the most significant cultural events in Europe, it managed to attract more than 224 000 people last year.

In terms of music, some of the names that will be around are 23 Skidoo, Orelha Negra, Hailu Mergia, Sandro Mussida, among other. In terms of dance, some of the most well-know names are Mathilde Monnier, Cirque Inextremiste, Compagnie Basinga e Companhia Nacera Belaza.

Traditional street luge – Oporto

On the 2nd June 2018, there will be a street luge race in Bonfim, Oporto. The third edition of this event will take place in Rua Pinto Bessa. If you are interested in participating in this race, you should enrol until the 25th May 2018. In order to do that fill in this form and send it to the following email (comunicacao@jfbonfim.pt) until the proposed deadline.

Participation is free and there will be prizes awarded for the best pilot in the senior, junior and child categories, as well for the best team and most original design.

EDP Women Race

The 13th edition of the EDP’s Women Race will take place in Oporto, more precisely in the Campanhã area, on the 20th May 2018. This year’s edition will help support the fight against breast cancer and aims at promoting exercise among women. More than 18000 women are already enrolled for this event, with the oldest having 92 years old.
