New Year’s Concert – Oporto

In the afternoon of the 1st January 2018, there will be a New Year concert in Avenida dos Aliados. The concert will start at 16h00 and will be performed by the Portuguese Synmphonic Band!!

New Year’s Eve Oporto

2018 is just around the corner and next Sunday Oporto will welcome the New Year in style!! There are plenty of options available to make a stylish entry in 2018, however, for those of you that just want to party with the locals without any restrictions, then the best option is to go to Aliados avenue. The party starts at 22h30 with a local band concert (Aurea). Afterwards, there is an amazing and breathtaking fireworks show that should last around 15 minutes leading to another concert at 00h20, this time by Amor Electro (another Portuguese band)!!

Additionally, and for those that are more into dance music, there will be a wide selection of DJ’s that are going to perform in two different stages: one located in “Praça dos Poveiros” and another in “Amor de Perdição” plaza!!

Tourist Tax – Oporto- 2018

Starting from March 2018, there will be a new tourist tax applied to all visitors coming to Oporto. The tourist tax will be in the amount of 2 euros per night and is aimed at maintaining infrastructure and buildings in the historical/tourist center. The tax is applied until a maximum of 7 straight nights per person, meaning that longer stays are excluded. Health tourism and youngsters under the age of 13 do not pay tourist tax as well.

The tax is heavier in comparison to other cities, namely Lisbon, however it will be included in final prices paid by tourists and should not mean a very significant increase in total expenditure, at least for some apartments or hotels. It will all depend on how the new prices will be set after March 2018.

World Enduro Championship – 2018 Oporto

The WESS (World Enduro Super Series) starts its 2018 edition in Oporto on the 11th May. The Oporto event will last for 3 days and it will be a great opportunity some of the best racers and teams. In 2018, the super series will join for the first time all the Enduro versions, including Hard Enduro, Classic Enduro, Cross Country and Beach Racing. In 2017, Oporto hosted one round of the Enduro Super Series and more than 20000 people watched the event. In 2018, expectations are even higher.

Air Canada flies to Oporto

Air Canada announced that will soon have direct flights between Toronto and Oporto starting from the 8th June 2018. According to agency Presstur, there will be four flights a weeks (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) and the plane of choice to cross the Atlantic will be the Boeing B767.

Additionally, Air Canada is also planning to establish direct connections to Lisbon and other european cities during summer 2018!!

This is definitely great news for Canadian tourists that want to visit Oporto, as they are now much closer than before!!!
