Women’s Race 2019

The 14th edition of the Women’s Race will take place in Oporto on the 19th May 2019. In similar lines to what happened last year, this year the race will have a total length of 5 kms, starting at 10h00 in Antas avenue. The Race is sponsored by the Oporto City Council and last year it managed to gather 22 000 participants from 25 different countries.

Enrolment in this race is open and if you are interested you can visit the race promoter’s website. Part of the enrolment price will be given to charities: 1 euro for IPO and breast cancer support.

New Year’s eve 2019

Oporto will celebrate the New Year 2019 with 3 days of cultural events leading to the famous 16 minutes of fireworks that blow over Avenida dos Aliados every year. This year, the Oporto City Council is expecting a record number of people welcoming the New Year in the street. Latest forecasts are pointing at 200 000 people.

2.3 million Xmas lights in Oporto

More than 2 million LED lights will be installed in 59 streets, avenues, gardens and buildings in Oporto to celebrate Xmas and New Year’s eve 2018. This is one of the biggest investments in Xmas lights from the Oporto City Council and the lights should be available from the 1st December 2018 until the 6th January 2019. To celebrate this investment, there will be a special event on the 1st December at 18h00 with all Xmas lights being switched on in Avenida dos Aliados (the place where one of the biggest Xmas trees of Portugal can be found – 40 metres height and 29 000 lights).

Besides lights, there will also be other elements of Xmas decoration being used throughout Oporto.

End of year Oporto race – São Silvestre

The 25th edition of the Oporto São Silvestre Race will take place on the 30th December 2018. The race starts at 18h00 in Avenida dos Aliados and will finish as well in Avenida dos Aliados. There are two different options to participate in this race:

  • The 10km race with a limit of 10 000 runners.
  • The 5km walk with a limit of 5 000 participants.

The São Silvestre is organised by Runporto and is sponsored by the Oporto City Council. Enrolment is already open for this year’s edition and if you want to know more about this event, please visit the Runporto website for more info!!

Pink Market returns to Edifício Transparente

The market of art, creativity, vintage and flavours will take place again by the Oporto beach, outside Edifício Transparente, on the 3rd and 4th November 2018. There is free access to the market and the market will be open from 11h00 until 18h00, both on Saturday and Sunday. This event is organized by the Pink Movement in partnership with the Oporto City Council.

The Smart Capital 2018 will take place again in Oporto. This year’s edition will happen between the 20th and 21st September 2018 in the Dragon Stadium. It is an event promoted by the International Venture Club (IVC) in partnership with the Oporto City Council. Inflatable cinema for children – Outeiro

The inflatable cinema initiative will take place today (8th September 2018) in Bairro do Outeiro, Paranhos, between 11h00 and 20h00. Today’s event will feature different movie sessions for different age groups:

  • Children aged 3 to 5: 11h00, 14h00 and 17h00
  • Children aged 6 to 9: 12h00, 15h00 and 18h00
  • Children aged 10 to 12: 13h00, 16h00 and 19h00

Everyone can watch these movies for free and this initiative was promoted by the Oporto City Council in partnership with Associação Cultural Figueira Nacional.

New Tourist Information Desk

A new tourist information desk is now available in Santa Catarina, at the entrance of FNAC building. This new desk comes out of a partnership between the Oporto City Council and the Oporto Association of Tourism. The main purpose of this new desk is to enlarge the offer of several products, maps and information that can help tourists to better enjoy Oporto.

This a temporary desk that will be open until the 15th September, with the following schedules:

  • 10h00 to 21h00 – Monday to Saturday
  • 11h00 to 20h00 – Sundays

For those staying at the Oporto Sunset Blue Balcony flat, this is clearly a very valuable resource, as it is located nearby (8 to 10 minutes walk)!!

21st April – Miguel Bombarda Art exhibitions

17 new art exhibits will be presented for the first time in Oporto on the 21st April 2018. This new set of fresh art will be available simultaneously in the most famous art block of Oporto: Rua Miguel Bombarda. In lines similar to previous editions, this event will be sponsored and promoted by the Oporto City Council, via PortoLazer. Besides the typical autonomous tours to exhibits, there will also be guided tours, workshops, tutorials and theatre. Most of the events prepared for this day are free.
