Rip Curl GromSearch 2018 – Oporto

The International Oporto beach will host the Rip Curl GromSearch event between the 1st and the 2nd December 2018. This international competition was designed to find new surf talents which are called grommets. This Rip Curl event started in Australia in 1999, but is now spread worldwide. The winner of the Portuguese event will go to Australia in 2019 to participate in the final of the international tournament.

EDP Oporto Marathon 2018

The 15th edition of the EDP Oporto Marathon will take place on the 4th November and is scheduled to start at 9h00 by the Sealife Porto. The race will follow the same layout as last year’s for a total distance of 42 195 metres, having already more than 7 000 people enrolled. To understand exactly the layout of the marathon, you can take a look at the video below:

Besides the main marathon, there will also be a Family Race with 15 km and a Fun Race with 6 km. Overall, the event organizer (Runporto) expects to gather around 15 000 people.

The great news is that 2018 edition has been awarded the Bronze Label Road Race award by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).

6 new destinations from Oporto – Ryanair 2019

The Irish low-cost airline company, Ryanair, has announced 6 new destinations from Oporto airport in summer 2019. The new airports that will have a direct connection from Oporto are: Seville, Alicante, Brive, Cagliari, Marrakech and Venice (Treviso). According to the CEO of Ryanair, Michael O´Leary, this expansion is part of the 100 million euros investment that Ryanair intends to do in Portugal during 2019 and that involves also, 3 new destinations for Lisbon and 3 for Faro.

In total, there are now 57 routes being operated by Ryanair from Oporto airport and some of those have been reinforced quite recently.

Overall, these are goods news for Oporto, as the city becomes closer to other important tourist destinations, increasing its attractiveness!!!

Beach Cleaning – October 2018

In a joint initiative, SEA LIFE Porto, Oporto University and the Oporto Water Company, are welcoming all volunteers to help clean the Oporto Castelo do Queijo beach on the 6th October 2018. The event should start at 10h15 and more than 300 people are expected to participate. The session should last for 90 minutes and afterwards there is a snack and a free visit to the Oporto Sea Life.

The beach cleaning session wants to draw people’s attention to the need to preserve and protect our oceans from all types of pollution. If you are around and want to give a helping hand, you are more than welcome … 🙂 🙂

Aquaporto 2018

The Aquaporto 2018 event will take place in Parque da Cidade – Oporto between the 28th and the 30th September 2018. This event is promoted by the Oporto City Council, Oporto Water and Porto Lazer in order to celebrate the water day and help people know more about climate change. This year’s event includes 130 scientific / educational experiences performed by specific partners located near the Water Pavillion – northern entrance to Parque da Cidade.

Entrance is free and everyone is welcome to participate. The schedule for the 3 days is the following:

This weekend there will be new art exhibitions in Miguel Bombarda. At least, 15 art galleries will present their new exhibitions next Saturday. Again, there will also be guided tours for those that want to know more about Miguel Bombarda art exhibitions.
