Every Saturday, during the month of August, there will be jazz nights at the Palácio de Cristal gardens in Oporto. Entrance is free and all events start at 22h00. The audience can not only listen to jazz music, but also enjoy a beautiful romantic landscape of River Douro by night. The artists will be local talents selected by Porta-Jazz.

If you like to listen to jazz music in a romantic location, then this is an opportunity you cannot miss. If staying in Oporto during any of the Saturdays of August, make sure you go to Palácio de Cristal at 22h00 …

Saint John’s Fireworks Show

The tradition becomes more and more intense!!! This year, the typical Saint John’s fireworks show is schedule to last more than 19 minutes.

Considered as one of the most relevant features of the Saint John’s party at Oporto, the fireworks show will take place on the first minute of the 24th June 2018. The show will happen in the middle of River Douro, downstream from bridge Dom Luís I in a total span of 600 metres. The show will feature 53 750 different blasts with an average of 2 756 blasts per minute. To provide a better ambiance for the show, there will also be a selection of 8 different music tracks.

Overall, this is an awesome part of Saint John’s festivities...

Saint John holiday at Oporto

This year, the Saint John party will take place on saturday’s night. Considered as one of the biggest celebrations in Portugal, and the biggest in Oporto, this is a party that attracts many tourists. In 2018, the main list of events scheduled by the City Hall for the holiday is the following:

  • 22nd June at 21h30 – Avenida dos Aliados – Saint John Parade with typical groups singing and dancing
  • 23rd June at 22h00 – Avenida dos Aliados – tribute to António Mafra
  • 23rd June at 24h00 – fireworks in River Douro
  • 24th June at 00h30 – José Cid concert – Avenida dos Aliados
  • 24th June at 17h00 – Saint John concert – Avenida dos Aliados

Additionally, there should also be many private and neighbourhood parties that you can enjoy. Most of these are free, so you should be up for the time of your life...
