Saint John’s Fireworks Show

The tradition becomes more and more intense!!! This year, the typical Saint John’s fireworks show is schedule to last more than 19 minutes.

Considered as one of the most relevant features of the Saint John’s party at Oporto, the fireworks show will take place on the first minute of the 24th June 2018. The show will happen in the middle of River Douro, downstream from bridge Dom Luís I in a total span of 600 metres. The show will feature 53 750 different blasts with an average of 2 756 blasts per minute. To provide a better ambiance for the show, there will also be a selection of 8 different music tracks.

Saint Martins’ Weekend – Oporto

This weekend Oporto celebrates the Saint Martins’ weekend. It is a typical Portuguese tradition coming from a very distant past. Normally, this celebration happens in one of the last weeks of summer like weather and people call it the “Saint Martins’ summer”. One of the most proeminent features of this celebration is the traditional chestnut roasting that tends to be in held in a big community bonfire. Everyone helps preparing the bonfire and the chestnuts, and everyone eats at the end.

To celebrate this year’s Saint Martins’ weekend, there will be plenty of bonfires in Oporto and most of them are free. If you are visiting Oporto, this is an opportunity you cannot miss!!
