Xmas Market 2018 – Oporto

The first edition of the Oporto Xmas Market will take place in Praça da Batalha between the 1st and the 24th December 2018. This event will gather 20 sellers in wooden shacks with Christmas decoration. There will be Xmas lights, Xmas trees, workshops, music and much more. There is free access to the Xmas market and there you can buy toys, books, crafted products, food, clothes, among other products.

The Xmas market will be open for business between 11h00 and 20h00, except on Fridays and Saturdays, when the closing time will be delayed to 23h00.

If you are going to be in Oporto during Xmas time, this a good place to buy some gifts and to enjoy some of the Portuguese Xmas spirit 🙂 🙂

Porta-Jazz Festival – Oporto

The 9th edition of the Porta-Jazz Festival will take place in Oporto between the 1st and the 9th December 2018. This year’s edition includes 30 concerts, among which some new releases and unique plays. There will also be workshops and jam sessions involving some of the local jazz schools.

The Festival will be spread throughout Oporto and will take place in the following locations: Teatro Rivoli, Casa da Música, Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Cinema Passos Manuel, Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo, Hot Five, Casa de Ló and Porta-Jazz Lounge.

Rip Curl GromSearch 2018 – Oporto

The International Oporto beach will host the Rip Curl GromSearch event between the 1st and the 2nd December 2018. This international competition was designed to find new surf talents which are called grommets. This Rip Curl event started in Australia in 1999, but is now spread worldwide. The winner of the Portuguese event will go to Australia in 2019 to participate in the final of the international tournament.

The market of art, creativity, vintage and flavours will take place again by the Oporto beach, outside Edifício Transparente, on the 3rd and 4th November 2018. There is free access to the market and the market will be open from 11h00 until 18h00, both on Saturday and Sunday. This event is organized by the Pink Movement in partnership with the Oporto City Council.

EDP Oporto Marathon 2018

The 15th edition of the EDP Oporto Marathon will take place on the 4th November and is scheduled to start at 9h00 by the Sealife Porto. The race will follow the same layout as last year’s for a total distance of 42 195 metres, having already more than 7 000 people enrolled. To understand exactly the layout of the marathon, you can take a look at the video below:

Besides the main marathon, there will also be a Family Race with 15 km and a Fun Race with 6 km. Overall, the event organizer (Runporto) expects to gather around 15 000 people.

The great news is that 2018 edition has been awarded the Bronze Label Road Race award by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).

6 new destinations from Oporto – Ryanair 2019

The Irish low-cost airline company, Ryanair, has announced 6 new destinations from Oporto airport in summer 2019. The new airports that will have a direct connection from Oporto are: Seville, Alicante, Brive, Cagliari, Marrakech and Venice (Treviso). According to the CEO of Ryanair, Michael O´Leary, this expansion is part of the 100 million euros investment that Ryanair intends to do in Portugal during 2019 and that involves also, 3 new destinations for Lisbon and 3 for Faro.

In total, there are now 57 routes being operated by Ryanair from Oporto airport and some of those have been reinforced quite recently.

Overall, these are goods news for Oporto, as the city becomes closer to other important tourist destinations, increasing its attractiveness!!!
