Ice rinks for Xmas in Oporto

There will be two ice rinks available in Oporto during Christmas time for everyone that wants to skate. The rinks are already open to the public and anyone that wants to use them needs to pay an admission fee:

  • 3.50 euros for 20 minutes in both rinks
  • 5 euros for 60 minutes in the Praça Dom João I rink
  • 6 euros for 60 minutes in the Praça de Mouzinho Albuquerque rink

Both rinks will be open for business until the 6th January 2018. Working hours range, in general, from 10h00 until 22h00, with special times for weekends and bank holidays.

If you intend to be in Oporto during the holidays, then this may be an interesting option to entertain you in true Christmas spirit!!

End of year Oporto race – São Silvestre

The 25th edition of the Oporto São Silvestre Race will take place on the 30th December 2018. The race starts at 18h00 in Avenida dos Aliados and will finish as well in Avenida dos Aliados. There are two different options to participate in this race:

  • The 10km race with a limit of 10 000 runners.
  • The 5km walk with a limit of 5 000 participants.

The São Silvestre is organised by Runporto and is sponsored by the Oporto City Council. Enrolment is already open for this year’s edition and if you want to know more about this event, please visit the Runporto website for more info!!

Xmas Market 2018 – Oporto

The first edition of the Oporto Xmas Market will take place in Praça da Batalha between the 1st and the 24th December 2018. This event will gather 20 sellers in wooden shacks with Christmas decoration. There will be Xmas lights, Xmas trees, workshops, music and much more. There is free access to the Xmas market and there you can buy toys, books, crafted products, food, clothes, among other products.

The Xmas market will be open for business between 11h00 and 20h00, except on Fridays and Saturdays, when the closing time will be delayed to 23h00.

If you are going to be in Oporto during Xmas time, this a good place to buy some gifts and to enjoy some of the Portuguese Xmas spirit 🙂 🙂

Rip Curl GromSearch 2018 – Oporto

The International Oporto beach will host the Rip Curl GromSearch event between the 1st and the 2nd December 2018. This international competition was designed to find new surf talents which are called grommets. This Rip Curl event started in Australia in 1999, but is now spread worldwide. The winner of the Portuguese event will go to Australia in 2019 to participate in the final of the international tournament.

If you are in the neighbourhood and surf is your thing, then it may make sense to watch some of the new Portuguese talents showing their skills …

Voice for the Ocean Tour

The “Voice for the Ocean Tour” conference will be coming to Oporto between the 9th and 10th November 2018 to raise awareness about ocean pollution and climate change around the globe. In this event, promoted by the Surfrider Foundation Europe, there will be several politicians and opinion makers.

The 2018 edition of the Oporto Book Fair will take place in the gardens of Palácio de Cristal between the 7th and the 23rd September. This is a typical event in which several local bookshops and publishers try to present and sell some of their most interesting books and/or collections. There are not only books in Portuguese, but also in other languages, written by several national and international authors. For experts, there are also some unique and rare masterpieces.

Clérigos pipe organ concerts – August 2018

During the month of August 2018, there will be summer pipe organ concerts everyday in the Clérigos church at Oporto. All concerts start at 12h00 and sometimes include more than just pipe organ performances. All concerts are free!!

Additionally, there is also the option of doing a night visit to the tower of Clérigos church. This is an excellent to way to have an overview of some of the best landscapes of Oporto. Night visits can happen between 19h00 and 23h00. Price per ticket is 5 euros and children up to 10 years of age enter for free.

The first edition of the Oporto Busker Festival will take place every weekend during the month of August. It is a festival that celebrates street culture and arts and everyone is welcome to watch. Oporto Piano Fest 2018

The third edition of the Oporto Piano Festival will take place between the 30th July and 5th August 2018 in several locations in Oporto. Oporto will have a week of piano concerts, conferences, master classes and much more. The opening concert will happen in Casa da Música on the 30th July at 19h30. Nuno Marques will perform on the piano together with Emanuel Salvador on the violin and the Stars of American Ballet.
